National Guard
-
Description:
-
The Army National Guard is made up of Citizen-Soldiers who train part time, close to home, until needed. Since 1636, each state has had its own militia. These became the foundation of today's Guard units (this was mandated by the Constitution in 1787). The Guard mobilizes to protect U.S. domestic interests in times of conflict or natural disaster and may be deployed internationally alongside full-time troops when the situation demands. Today's National Guard consists of approximately 340,000 troops from all U.S. states and territories.

Most military branches have a ROTC program at different universities. Some schools may not, so please check with the school you are interested in to see if a branch exists at that school.

You would start your service commitment after you graduate from college, as an officer, which is a higher rank than the entry level. Usually you will be serving the military with a job that is related to your major.

Many times, this program will pay for your tuition and/or your room and board in college.

Usually applications are due by winter, so if interested, please contact the ROTC program at the school you are interested in, or talk to Mr. Chun.
