Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

All students who plan to begin college next year should complete the FASFA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). It is available online at this link. This is also an Illinois graduation requirement. Students should contact their college of choice to determine which, if any, additional form(s) is required by that institution.

You will need to the following to complete the FAFSA:

  • Social Security Number (parent’s and student’s)

  • Records of income, such as earned income from work and business, child support paid or received and any other untaxed income. You can use last year's tax forms (W-2 Form, Federal Income Tax Return 1040, 1040A or 1040EZ) to estimate. If you have this year's forms, bring those as well.

  • Information about assets, such as savings, certificates of deposit, investment real estate, business and farm; stock options, bonds, 529 plans and other college savings programs.

  • Dates of birth (student’s and parent’s)

  • Month and year of marriage, separation, divorce or other change in marital status

  • Alien registration number, if the student is not a U.S. citizen
